I'm pretty anal. I manage it well, but its still a thing for me. That said, I plan to take my little bird all around the country. Not sure I'd want to cross the Rockies in it, but being based in Florida, I see tons of Smokey Mountain trips, east coast runs, as far up as Maine, into the great lakes, mid west, down to see the Alamo, etc. Tons of great places to go. I could even go out west, but I'd have to plan my route smartly. Only so many angry squirrels under my cowling.
That said, when I get to an airport for overnight, my instinct is to want to put my plane inside. Heck, I've only got a 140. So, for those of you with $100k+ airplanes, how do you sleep at night when your baby is parked outside while you are traveling? Rain, sun beating on it, who's messing with it, possible thunderstorms, etc? Just chaulk it up to "life" and the risk of having/using your plane instead of it just being a hangar queen? Or do you make a concerted effort to find airports that can accomodate hangar parking and pay the premium?
Perhaps just a nice fabric top over the plane is all that is needed and a good set of chocks. Do you go so far as to get a rudder lock device, etc?
