I have been thinking about starting my IFRI training later this year. I will probably read heavily before I go up with an instructor.

My question is, about the airplane I fly. It has no DME. Would you say it would be advantageous because I would be learning IFR in an aircraft that just has the minimum equipment, therefore when I add equipment it would be easier for me? I figure if I can fly on the bare minimum, it only gets easier when you add DME, GPS etc. or would it be a disadvantage because I can't practice with that equipment?
