Hi, adventures of owning a training Cherokee land reporting in once again.

During the course of my training I've learned a couple things outside of training explicitly. One, fuel is friggin pricey. Two, I found an anomaly that is both interesting and... odd. If I stick my hand out my window (forcing some air into the cabin), my airspeed, altimeter and vsi all drop significantly. Like 10KT IAS, and about 200 feet on alt / vsi. They'll eventually settle down again to what seems right, but if I pull my hand back in, they go nuts again before settling once more to what 'seems' right by weight, instructor experience in area by comparison to what they eyeball a hundred times a year (in a different plane).

Further, if I fiddle with the alt valve under the dash nothing seems to change. One of the instructors said when you switch it over there could be/should be a jump or change briefly as its source has changed. No such jump. Is it possible/probable my alt is stuck on? Or is my hand just that big and is disrupting the airflow all the way out there? (seems logically unlikely... but...?)

This own airplane thing is both interesting and expensive. But it's good training time, fly twice a day and not wait for a plane.
