I have searched high and low trying to figure the costs of ownership. I always seem to get a wide range of figures so I going to try to simplify it. I am putting together a budget to own my own plane ( I am not trying to save money, I want the convenience and pride of owning my own, plus I am 45 miles from the FBO)

This aircraft will mainly be used in traveling to visit kids in college and the occasional cross country trip with the wife and bags (cross state of Kansas for kids and to south Texas, eastern Colorado and west Missouri for vacations).

Also, depending on cost's, it would be nice to be capable of hauling three adults if not four periodically (95% of the time, two full size adults)

Ive been researching the Cherokee 180, Archer II and the Dakota if affordable?

Now my question!
My initial thought for my budget is 15K to 18K per year TOTAL costs. This includes loan for aircraft, fixed and variable cost and fuel ( I average 50-75 hours per year) I would like to find a plane with a very low time overhaul to keep my engine reserve per hour lower. And would like to get the most plane for my money, obviously.

I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on this and if it is doable?? Thank you guys for your help!
