In diagnosing a no-load ammeter reading on my plane (1965 Cherokee 180C) it really appears that I have no over voltage relay for my charging system. My voltage regulator is a Zeftronics R1510L unit without the OV circuit. I spoke to Zeftronics, and they told me what I should be looking for, as did the IA that was helping me. I probably spent 3 hours on my back with my head under the panel the last few days. Charging issue was a bad connection (input wire to the VR).
There is some sort of a radio interference capacitor (or whatever) the attaches to the VR - power in and power out of the VR go through it. This unit does not appear to have any sort of relay in it (it's all open air).
I have been told that early Cherokees do not have OVR's. (most modern automobiles don't either). Just checking in here with the brain-trust.
Thank you, Gary
