Heading to my Mx shop yesterday for some new tires when the unmistakable smell of burning electrical entered the cabin. No breakers were popped, everything including the ampmeter looked normal, but I decided on the ground was a better place to be. Approach switched me to tower and diverted jetliner out of the way and took me in first. I decided to kill everything at the master switches and go in sans radios or anything. Luckily it turned out to be a very minor item. I appreciated ATC understanding that although I wasnt on fire or did not have smoke in the cabin, the place to sort things out is on Terra Firma.

I’m sure we’ve all heard tragic stories of crews that hesitated at the start of a fire and the precious time lost by not acting immediately to get down. That was drilled into me by my instructor and I’m glad he did.
