Today my wife and I drove to our lake front cottage. The day was clear blue and mild, roads dry and overall a pleasant day. We were just checking the place to make sure the gas was on since I'd gotten a call from the natural gas distribution co-op that they had briefly de-pressured the line for some maintenance. The furnace is a spark ignition one with no pilot light to go out but figured I'd check it anyhow. I noted that the lake was pretty much bare ice, quite smooth and thick and got wondering if I should have just flown the Arrow there which would have been about 30 minutes rather than the 1 1/2 hours by car.

Can anyone here offer advice on what regulations if any I might have broken? The lake was quiet with no vehicles or people on it but since it is a rather built up area would it be considered such in winter days like today?
