So I had been putting off getting my instrument rating and just flying as much as possible, but this year the "June gloom" marine layer has been a real PITA and forced me to postpone and cancel a bunch of flights. It's usually no more than a few hundred feet and burns off by 10ish, but this year it has hung around until mid afternoon some days....

I was told to get the written out of the way, and to use Sheppard air, which I found to be a waste of time and $40... but that's for another thread. So I got the King Online course and as corny as the two of them are, it broke the info down to bite-sized pieces. I finished up the videos and the course on a recent flight to and from Europe last month, (I binge-watched pretty hard) and took the test the day after I got back - jet-lag and all. Passed with a solid score, and really don't know what all the fuss is about with this exam. It was WAAAY easier than any of the practice tests I'd taken, but maybe that's because I'm a seasoned test taker - college- medical school, residency, board certification etc etc.

Now I'm headed to GATTS in Kansas in September for their 10 day IFR course (with my Saratoga) What does everyone think of the accelerated courses? Keep in mind, I don't plan on flying hard IFR, I just think it gives me more options, and will make me a better, safer pilot.
