Hi all,

I am new to the forum joining after deciding on buying an airplane. I've narrowed it down to a Piper Dakota or 182 (leaning towards the Dakota - more plane for your buck it seems).

I was recently given advice to not even think about owning a plane in my area (Miami, FL with hot and salty air) unless I have a hangar or else I would have to make sure to wax the plane every month. The problem is that hangar space in my area is running to about $650/month and is difficult to find. While I can technically afford the payment, it is difficult to convince my boss that paying this much for parking/storage is worth it to preserve and prevent damage on an airframe of about $80-100k in value.

My question is whether I would be almost just as well if I put a cover on the plane from cowling to empennage and lubricated all of the appropriate areas. Also, waxing a plane every month may be difficult if I am on a ramp, so does this sound realistic assuming I am highly motivated.

I do not want to go cheap on my own aircraft, but I have to answer to you know who. So, if anyone can answer the above questions and/or provide sound (or semi-sound) justification for leasing a hangar at the rate in my area, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you so much for your help in advance.
