Check ride was WAY easier than I thought it would be. The plane is Aspen equipped with GTN-650 and autopilot. She told me to use the AP the way I've been taught and if she feels I was using it too much she would ask me to shut it off. The only thing requested was that I hand fly one of the precision approaches and the partial panel VOR. Here's how it went....

Took off and went under the hood. I dialed the AP heading bug to on course heading before takeoff, so I turned on the AP and climbed to 3000 on course as instructed. At 3000 I engaged altitude hold.

Next was a left DME arc 24DME from JKS VOR. At 24.5 I turned the heading bug 90 degrees to the left and the wings rolled out level at 24.0. She said to turn to 090 and se up for the GPS approach.

Next was the hold followed by the GPS approach. Still on the AP I loaded and briefed the GPS approach. The AP flew the plane into and through the hold. Once on the final approach course, I put the AP in approach mode and adjusted power as required till minimums.

Went missed on the GPS direct to the IAF for the ILS. I hand flew the ILS, used synthetic vision and pretty much nailed it. Mostly within 1/2 a dot or so and altitude within 50ft.

Went missed on the ILS and went direct to the IAF for the VOR partial panel, which with dual Aspen panels, is a non issue. Felt like I was chasing the needle a little outbound, but had it under control inbound. Descended to minimums and circled to land.

I made 2 mistakes that were brought up during the debrief.

(1) I forgot to call the FAF inbound on the ILS. I caught the mistake just before I reported the missed approach. Fortunately, for a towered field, they are pretty laid back. They also knew I was on my check ride.

(2) I let my altitude get a little high after going visual at the MDA on the VOR. MDA is 1080 and I let it get up to 1250, but I caught it and got it under control.
