Got to spend my first hour left seat in a Cherokee 6 this morning thanks to the graciousness of a local pilot becoming a friend. Truly great and selfless people around our field willing to help each other out, proud to be finding my way into the community here at KLBX.
I am in the early stages of attempting to acquire a beautiful example and this local gift will go a long way towards facilitating the later stages (pick-up)..
I found the 6 to be everything I expected it to be. A little heavy on the ground, but docile and stable manners in the air, a great combination for a perpetual student at my stage of development.
No real surprises, did some higher speed turns, power off stalls, slow flight, etc.. Flew an intentionally wide pattern to stabilize the approach and got it on the ground relatively smoothly, didn't plop it down, carried a bit of power through the flare, didn't bounce it either, for a first shot at it, was acceptable.
We had a manifold pressure gauge failure so didn't get to run her around the pattern.
Was also lucky to be connected with a truly great CFI with tons of time in time and a teaching style that suits me well. A real guru of foundational mechanics. I'm having to unlearn a few bad habits, but I really like his style of flying.
With any luck, I'll get to do some more work this week and secure my HP sign off, a license to continue learning this class of aircraft!
Great Day!
