I am trying not to ask a stupid or unanswerable question but this has been a topic that weighs heavily on my mind. When I began flying, it was just my wife and I and we mainly flew a Cirrus with the CAPS system. We now have 3 very small children and I am looking to purchase a Lance/Saratoga. There are some concerns that exist in the Piper that were not there with the Cirrus. Mainly, would I be able to walk away from an in flight engine failure. In the Cirrus you have the option of pulling the chute.

With this said, what are the chances of this happening? I'm planning on definitely flying with a modern engine monitor but are there other options to prevent this from happening? Is one engine manufacturer more reliable than the other?
