Dakota guys,

How do you ID your aircraft to ATC?

I've owned my Dakota since February '16. When I call for flight following, etc I identify myself as Dakota {N number}. It appears that virtually none of controllers know the model. I'm flying in DFW, Houston, Austin, ETC! The primary reason I've said Dakota is to ID myself as something faster than a regular Cherokee... and because it's cool.

Inevitably, I spend extra time explaining that I'm a PA-28B.... I may promote my plane to a Saratoga-- they know that one!

What do you guys use?
