Sent my airplane (PA28-180, O360-A3A) into the shop a few weeks ago to troubleshoot a roughness from idle to 1000rpm. Mechanic examined / tried several things but no resolution other than isolation of problem to the carb. Likely the idle circuit / idle jet. I believe that he is on the right track.

He recommended that we order an overhauled carb and replace the entire unit. He also gave the option of sending the carb out for inspection / testing / repair. I opted for the overhauled unit, as the inspect/repair option was going to take at least another few weeks and the airplane has already been grounded for awhile.

He quoted about $850 for the overhauled unit and $300 for remove/replace.

He also noted that the inspect/repair route could be cheaper - but no guarantee.

Just wanted to verify that those prices make sense. Seemed sane to me, but I don't have any experience with aircraft carbs (now, boat motors, on the other hand...).
