Has anyone tried making a correction table for the stock fuel gauges in a PA-28 (or similar)? I was thinking that if I record the fuel gauge reading on each side after every flight, and compare it to what I get actually dipping or refilling the tank, I'll end up with a scatter plot that I can fit to a correction table something like this (different for each tank):

Gauge, Actual
25, 25
24, 23.5
23, 21
22, 19

(etc). Has anyone tried this? Did it work?

I know a timer, careful attention to power settings, and 60-minute reserve are my most-reliable choices, but it might still be nice to have a backup info source without investing thousands in an engine monitor with fuel-flow support.
