I have been going to my Family Doctor for almost 25 years now. My Doctor is a pilot and has a Bonanza at my home field so we see each other outside the Patient-Doctor environment.
We were in the FBO the other day waiting for a line of Thunderstorms to pass, I was heading West and he was heading South. Several airport regulars were there and we were all talking. One guy asked Doc about BasicMed because he had not renewed his medical after a medical problem. Doc said that he would not be participating in BasicMed and would not be signing off Pilots. He said after reading the documents, the liability potential was too onerous for his appetite. He thought there would be issues with Doctors everywhere signing off on Pilot airworthiness, especially non Pilot docs.
I thought I would share this first hand information. I hope this is an exception and not a trend. I have been saying for some time the Liability is going to be an issue. You know full well every time there is an accident, everybody gets sued.
