Trying to troubleshoot Archer II alternator warning light circuit. We had voltmeter/ammeter overhauled at annual and also took apart battery area to tackle corrosion. On initial start, voltmeter showed 14.1 volts but higher than normal amps load. On second start-up, voltmeter showed 11.5 volts and higher amperage. We have 14.1 volts on the bus and at the battery . . . and have confirmed the overhauled meter is accurate. Also, the alternator warning light in on dimly. Long story short . . . we checked voltages everywhere and system looked perfect when we jumped around the big diode behind the battery. So we replaced the diode (pretty expensive and non-returnable). Same problem. So we took the 5 amp fuse out of the alternator warning light circuit (fuse is in battery compartment) and system works fine. We believe our mechanic disturbed a ground or compromised a connection in dismantling and re-assembling battery box etc. But would love ideas about how to figure this out.
