Me - Cherokee 140 and I'm almost positive it still has the original starter. I've read in several places including the Cherokee Hints and Tips book that those starters with the exposed bearing in the nose needs to be rebuilt and lubricated from time to time. Plus, it doesn't spin the engine very fast and I get the half turn, then the full rotation (normal) start on the second try. Oddly enough, I've seen YouTube videos of people with the same problem...if it IS a problem.
Having said all that I think I want another starter with a faster spin rate and without an exposed bearing in the front. I'm looking at the Sky-Tec XLT. My battery is new, I have copper cables and my ignition switch is good.
What starter do you guys have or recommend?
