Yesterday I was flying the approaches at the local airport. As soon as we took off and NEXRAD went green, I was painting red right at our current location when there was nothing there. I made some turns to get a better view and still nothing, so we went about our business. During the approaches we were in the red on the Aspen, yet sun was shining. That red area was about 5 miles north of the airport.

On the last approach, a cell popped up SE of the airport and was approaching the airport. This cell was producing heavy rain, but never showed on nexrad. This cell was really there. The one showing on NEXRAD north of the airport that was not there was still painting red.

I can't write this off to nexrad delays since we were in the air for over an hour. I tried to verify on foreflight, but the stratus wouldn't pick up weather data. I thought that maybe it was a nexrad system issue, but if the on-board ADS-B doesn't see valid data, the nexrad flag won't go green.
