Today and again tomorrow a group of guys (myself included) are flying over to MEM to take the IFR ground course. On the way to MEM we picked up VFR flight following and just did a visual all the way in. On the way back to our small home base we of course put on the foggles and shot an RNAV.

My question is if it's prudent to somehow request an IFR (ILS) approach into bravo with a safety pilot? I don't want to interfere with their traffic flow so I'd be fine if they picked which approach.

Is it fine to simply notify Memphis approach that we'd like to maintain VFR and do a simulated ILS and let them vector us to final?
