Well Im in the middle of a avionics upgrade and in the process I am updating the instrument lighting. I went with a 2 circuit solid state dimmer, as I will have LED and incandescent lights on the same circuit. Well I am running out of space behind of the panel to mount this solid state dimmer box. I have noticed that there is this other box mounted to panel that has never had anything hooked to it sense I have owned the plane, well after some research in the IPC, I think it is some sort of tracking device for the autopilot. This is what it is. http://www.ebay.ph/itm/Piper-PA28R-...472529?hash=item4d3be6f111:g:ucEAAOSwt6ZWVfPX.
Anyway well I don't have a autopilot installed. I am thinking of removing this box and mounting the dimmer box there. This box is mounted in my plane on the aft side of the firewall on the LH side. I guess I am just asking if I do install an autopilot someday that there aren't any large boxes that need to be mounted behind the panel, besides the normal autopilot control instrument that actually go in the panel, and that this old tracker box is useless in todays world.
This is in a 68 PA28-180 btw.
