Piper Cherokee Door Latch Issues (68188-00)

Good morning everyone. We are currently having some issues with out 1974 Warrior door latch aseembly. Occasionally when we open the door from the outside, the lever on the door travels past the normal position/stop and consequently gets stuck. What's happening is the pin (P/N: 14627-03) is traveling over the middle part of the plate assmebly (P/N: 66654-00). We bought another complete assembly from salvage and used it as a donor for parts (springs, pins, etc).

Can someone please provide some feedback on fixing this issue? I attached a pic for reference.
