I have a PA32-301 with the RMD wingtip landing lights. I am about to order replacement lens as they are in poor condition. I have noticed on several other planes with similar tips that they have a small raised "fin" on the inner edge of the lens that looks like it should block some of the peripheral light that can be seen from the pilot seat. Having flown with the tips on a few times at night I can say that they can be a little distracting to me.

I am wondering if this "fin" is effective at blocking the light and if so is this an add on part or part of OEM specs for newer wing tips? It seems when I search for the tips there are a lot that have the fins and others that do not.

Thanks
