The airplane is a C210. They were on their way back from Orlando today and went down in NW Alabama. It appears to be weather related. On board was the pilot, his wife and two kids. FlightAware shows a descent just before radar loss of just under 5000fpm. Looks like they weren't far from a nasty looking line of weather.

The tail number is N6563D. I knew him. He was my neighbor in the hangar complex. I looked at this airplane 2 weeks ago considering buying it and he was talking about this trip. He got his IR last year and had quite a bit of experience since then in weather. He used the plane for business travel.

Say a prayer. This sort of thing hits harder when it's so close to home.
