I have an S-Tec 55X autopilot installed in my Arrow, driven from an Aspen EFD 1000 Pro MAX. I'm pretty comfortable with the system's operation, but during my last long trip I wanted to cancel the ALT HOLD while maintaining the lateral mode and realized I didn't know how.

The trivial workaround was to hit the autopilot disconnect button then re-engage the lateral mode, but it seems like there is a "proper" way to accomplish this. I've since read through the 55X POH, but I didn't see anything that addressed this. Suggestions? Citations?
