I noticed that my 98 Archer III doesn't want to keep more than 6 qts on board. I was taught to add a quart at or below 6 qts, but when I do, she quickly gets rid of it. (POH just says capacity of 8 qts, and minimum safe of 2.)
This morning, she was at just a hair below 6 qts, so I added 1/2 a quart. After that, the oil pressure ran right on the edge between green and yellow for the first climb out, then just inside the upper edge of green afterward. After a few hours, it pretty much was back to the normal green ranges. (A little higher at full power, lower at cruise, and even lower at idle, but all within the green.)
I have noticed in the past, that although she will quickly shed anything above 6 qts, she'll stay at or just below 6 qts for days, if not weeks. (And I fly a few hours nearly everyday right now.)
I've read some threads her where people were operating between 5-6 qts, so is this normal?
