After two years of flying around I discovered that my original ADS-B Out installation was performed incorrectly by an avionics technician who no longer works in the area.
I flew the plane to a different shop and the technician said he needed a full day to install a new transponder antenna, coax cable, connect the GPS and transponder serial communications for position info, and upgrade the software on the transponder. I agreed to the work and scheduled a day to leave the plane at the shop. Price was not discussed but I was prepared to pay for a day's work at the usual local rates (~ $85/hour).
I dropped the plane off at 8:30 and picked it up at 4:30, work completed along with logbook entry. The job was professionally done.
In addition to various related parts charges for the antenna, wire, etc. I was charged for 14.5 hours of labor at $110/hour. What am I missing?
