I got a quote for hull and liability on a C-340 at $5170. That's with zero time in type, no retract time and no ME time, other than what I got in training.
We did some figuring and came to the conclusion that a C-210 would do the trick. It can carry the same load, more in some cases, and speeds are within 10kts. It does that on half the fuel burn and half the MX costs.
So I'm figuring single engine, insurance won't be a problem. I have almost 1000 hours, 210 hours HP and about 25 retract. Insurance on the 210 came in at $5390. Insurance agent says..."Evidently my carriers are not fond of the 210".
Only 1 or 6 they tried would even write it. What's so scary about the C-210? I'd consider a later model Saratoga TC if the useful load wasn't so light.
