So I picked up my 64 Aztec after being in the shop for 6 weeks for the annual. I did an extensive preflight including pumping the flaps up and down a couple of times with the hand pump. During my run up I cycled the flaps using the hydraulic pump and I also pushed the gear handle to the down position and it snapped right back. I was paying special attention to the hydraulic system because the in and out lines for the pump were replaced.
On takeoff everything seemed normal until I went to put the gear up. When I went to the up position with the handle it did not stay, it snapped right back to neutral position.
I did not head right back to the airport because it was going to be closed for paving and I didn't want to get stranded there for an indefinite amount of time unless I had to., so my first plan of action was to level off and sort things out.
After trying the gear handle a couple more times it just started working. Then then flew home at a reduced speed and cycled the gear numerous times and it seemed to work fine. I have since had 3 flights and the gear worked fine.
What could have cause this. Air in the system????
