I was flying from Pennsylvania to Arkansas in my Cherokee 6/300, enroute we made a fuel stop at IMS, after departing there and getting to our altitude I turned the booster pump off, immediately my fuel pressure went to Zero and the engine died. when I turned the booster pump on everything returned to normal. I was at 10,500' and 30 miles out from EVV so we landed at EVV. The mechanic there and the one at home base both said it was the mechanical driven fuel pump. the new pump was installed and we still can not get the rpm higher than about 2000 without the booster pump on, when we turn the booster pump on we get higher rpm and the pressure gauge comes out of the red into the green like normal.

I called several mechanic shops, they don't know what else to check. There is a possibility the new (not overhauled) high pressure fuel pump we put on is a lemon.

Suggestions? Ideas?
