Busted altitude by 200' during a hold for a VOR A approach on a very bumpy WX day (partial panel (no PFD)) so examiner tells me I failed and I can either end flight or continue. I was crushed & about to intercept inbound course when he tells me and luckily decided to continue even though the rest of the check ride was a blur after that point!
Good news is that the rest of the check ride (last non-precision approach) went fine so I only have to re-do the hold & VOR approach but still I was so bummed. Under no scenario did I ever imagine I would screw up my check ride. Especially considering I had just done a "prep flight" the night before w/ the exact same maneuver/approach! Today I'm looking at it as a positive to make me realize I need more work if I have a scenario where my Aspen PFD goes "poof" in the clouds and I have rely on backups to complete the approach in bumpy WX.
Flying w/ CFI Monday to brush up on hand flying non-presc approaches during bumpy WX and no PFD but before that I needed a "fun" flight to get over things so decided to try something new today...
