Hey everybody , brand new owner here, flawed by obsessive physician behavior, so bare with me.I just have some simple, possibly silly questions. On my Dakota and wanting to stay as safe and minimize mishaps and surprises equally, I am considering the following " preventative" measures ( obviously on top of annuals and oil changes) :
1- ? Oil lab testing every how often.
2- vacuum pump every 500 hours regardless of functional status ( which I am not sure can be tested beyond works/ doesn't work) .
3- New battery every 2 years regardless of ...
I understand that somebody could say " why don't u wait till it dies" , but my questions are:
A- is there any value to oil testing at 600 hours SMOH?
B- vacuum pump quit during ferrying flight after a thorough annual and prebuy. With no way of predicting pump death, is my timeline reasonable? Some pumps better than others?
C- has anybody added an extra battery, weight taken into account, is there a backup battery slightly smaller?
D- finally how about a backup alternator on dakotas, do they exist, cost? And would you add anything else to my list of preventible common breakdowns and malfunctions?
Thank you,
