My Dakota has about 800 hours on the engine and good compressions (77-78). How often are others adding a quart of oil?

I tend to keep mine between 9 and 10 quarts. After a change (using 11-12 qts) it takes a while to work back down to 9 and then I am adding a quart about every 7 hours. Most of my flying is long cross-country at 11-12K, but also long taxis - it's 1.5 miles from my hangar to the runway.

It seems like it likes to stay at 9 qts, so maybe it is just blowing out what I add, but I get nervous when it is under 9. I have been doing a "fill to 10, fly to 9"... should I try "fill to 9, fly to 8"?

What do other Dakota owners see?
