Do new learning pilots still have to do steep turns, stalls and be put into at least one spin?

A friend is learning to fly in a very modern plane equipped with a chute for emergencies. When I was asking about dead stick, door openings, spins he said the plane (a CIRRUS) would not do them and was not listed in the instructional information.

So, what are your thoughts about someone learning to fly in a plane so modern that the basics of mechanical flying are not covered?

What do you think of relying on a chute to save your bacon?
