Now, this is a flight simulation event, but one of the very large organized ones.

Thousands of pilots participate together with hundreds of ATC positions throughout the FIR/ARTCCs, including the Oceanics. All these individuals are sitting in their basements, flying a virtual plane, or starring at a virtual radar screen, and all linked by a network (VATSIM) for showing other traffic out the window/TCAS, on radar scopes, and of course VHF and HF comm. There is a CTP westbound in the Spring, and a nightime CTP eastbound in the Fall.

All very true to life in terms of procedure, ATC services, flight plans, and the like, all in real time with real time weather, and in numbers very similar if not even busier than an average day on the North Atlantic Tracks.

In greater magnification, you can now see the individual flights, here most have already exited the oceanic NAT tracks, and are headed towards various major airports in the eastern US & Canada, interspersed with regular traffic.

I'm not participating this year, but have done a few of these. Great fun, if a little tiring.
