I've made several trips to KSLC on a commercial carrier but really have wanted to make the trip in my 73 Challenger. Since I don't have oxygen on board, I'll need to avoid the mountains as much as possible, so I was thinking about a southern route through KABQ then northwest along US6 through the mountains into Spanish Fork. I'm looking at 13 hours flight time. You guys have been talking about how cool it is to fly out there, so I've gotten the bug.

This cross country will probably be a 2 or 3 day trip each way depending upon conditions, maybe longer if need be.

What's the saying out there in the high altitudes? Done by one? Since I'm not mountain experienced, any suggestions will be appreciated. Anyone flown a route similar to this, or is there a better route that I'm just not seeing?
