Folks, I am thoroughly confused and need some guidance. I have read what information that I can but the questions remain and I don’t want to screw anything up.

Went out to the airplane today and while the battery wasn’t completely dead, it wouldn’t turn the engine over. I have the Piper power receptacle and was able to jump it (IAW the checklist) for my pattern hop but I would like to avoid this in the future. I need a battery tender, but here is where I get uncertain.

1. I know I need an aviation specific charger so as to not damage the battery.

2. I am pretty sure that the external receptacle on the outside of the airplane is for jumping/powering avionics with master switch engaged correct? Hooking a charger through this port will NOT charge the battery right?

3. My battery is under/inside of the forward baggage compartment and not easily accessable to hook the alligator clips to the battery directly.

4. So I believe that I either have to figure out how to remove the battery from under the fwd baggage compartment or get the STC’d BatteryMinder power connecter mounted in the airplane?

5. If indeed there is no easier way of charging the battery, have those of you who have PA-32’s mounted the quick connect in the fwd baggage area?

Am I tracking on all the issues or am I missing something simple?

Thanks in advance!

Grant
