...just curious how other folks start up their O-540's?

Our checklist is:

Master On
Pump On
Prime (3 squirts hot and 4 or 5 cold...depending on how cold)
Throttle 1/4" in
Mixture Rich
Mags Left (ours only has a hot left mag)
Crank it!

However, I've read seen all kinds of variations...including one that kinda intrigued me but I haven't tried it yet. The guy was in a Cherokee Six and cycled the throttle a few times, didn't prime it, left the mags off but cranked it a couple blades to get some oil up to the top and after that got the mags on and it fired right up. Obviously, the Six has a different engine...but close enough.

I've also seen various commentary on whether or not you prime before or after you have the electric pump on. I have no idea there - I can't think of any reason why it matters if it's on or off when you are priming...

Curious how other folks get their non-EFI Lycomings up and running...
