Well I was holding to fly my plane from Fond du lac to my private strip to due deal some electrical issue I am having. A sonex took off in front of me and he couldn't of been 300ft in the air then I heard an engine failure call. Followed by and attempt to 180 the plane back to the airport. He made it about 90 degrees and the plane was stalling. He clipped a power wire and it came to a stop in a ditch on a road by the airport. The occupants were injured, one taken by helicopter another ambulance, but they were moving.
Sonex is not painting them self a very good picture, with this crash and the ceo and I think a coworker of sonex was killed due to engine failure on take off in Oshkosh last year.
Seeing this happen first hand on what happens when you try to 180 a dead stick airplane at low altitude and seeing the nice soybean field, that he would of landed if he just went straight, kind of takes you down a notch and makes your realize things I guess. I did eventually take off with my plane but I think I said to my self at least ten times, if I ever have a low alt engine failure to keep going straight or very minimal turns.
there is pictures of the plane if your look up Fond du lac Reporter.
just thought I would share.
