CO alarm alerted on a recent 6 hour cross country flight in a PA28-180. Closed the heat vents, opened the air vents. Got a little chilly, but alarm and CO monitor reading dropped to undetectable.
Only about 660 hours total time on overhauled muffler and 30 hours since annual.....attached is what was found. Complete circumferential crack around the muffler (most likely vibration induced). So glad I had a Guardian CO monitor and CGR-30P. Without it, not sure I'd be in a condition to write about this. New muffler acquired from Plane Xhaust Corporation. Pleased with their service.
Y'all be safe out there.
