I had the door of my Cherokee pop open several times...mostly because the upper latch wasn't fully engaged. I finally added a strap on the upper latch plate so I could pull the door firmly closed while engaging the latch.

Other than the excess wind noise, having the door pop open is a non-event, although it can be a scary thing for passengers.. My old CFI in Cessnas would deliberately unlatch his door at times to train me not to over-react.
