Well, the date came and I dropped N1UG off at Sarasota Avionics in Tullahoma, TN on Monday, May 15th. Time for the big upgrade finally!

Here is what the panel looked like (more or less) at the time of drop off:

And here is what it’ll look like (in my mind) once I get it back:

The work will consist of the removal of lots of old equipment on the inside and antennas on the exterior that will no longer be used. Coming out will be a KMA20 audio panel, KX170b NAV/COM, GTX320A transponder, a paperweight of a LORAN, KR85 ADF, all the associated indicators, a PM1000 intercom box, and some DME equipment that has never worked since I’ve owned the airplane.

In its place, Sarasota will be installing a GMA340 audio panel, GTN650 GPS/NAV/COM, (reinstalling my) MX170B NAV/COM, a GTX345 transponder, headset jacks for my rear seats, and panel mounting my 795 GPS.

I was quoted a time of 2 to 3 weeks for completion, which I thought sounded pretty quick! I feel like my baby is in good hands, but it always makes you nervous.
