I've thought about this for quite some time simply because as a new private pilot thinking about taking some longer x countries it's the topic that is always at the front of my mind...
Weather!
I did all the studying to be able to pass my tests and discuss prog charts with my CFI / DPE but now it's pretty much all on me. I still talk weather as much as I can but as something that is so important to what we do as pilots I think this forum is really missing out on an opportunity for us to discuss weather as an ongoing "case study" basis.
For example. I'm considering flying to the beach and leaving on or around Saturday August 8th and stay for a week. In a couple days the 8th will start to appear on the 10 day forecast... I'm pretty well versed on looking at current wx and the go/no go but being able to look at wx far off and developing a "probability" is still really challenging for me and I want to learn more. As the date approaches I have to not only decide on the trip there but have to look at the week later for the return trip. There's flexibility on the return date but it still needs to be looked at.
I'm VFR at this time so a lingering low ceiling could shorten or extend the vacation.
Anyway, just a suggestion for a sub forum. The thread titles could go like this "PGR - JKA 8/8"
