My 140 suddenly developed engine noise on the intercom. Nothing I have tried with buttons and switches changes it, which does change with the engine RPMs.

First thought is a bad ground and another mechanic at the airfield suggested it might be bad diodes in the alternator.

Any other thoughts from the crowd?
