Question for you Gopro guys.

I recently bought a hero 3 + and have it mounted externally, but im having some issues controlling it. I only have the gopro app for smartphone/tablet. It seems to works fine on the ground before I start the engine, but as soon as I start the engine the wifi signal get so bad I cant control it from the app anymore. I guess im looking for some experienced users of these cameras on how they control it. Im thinking about getting the actual remote for the go pro but not sure if it will change anything.

The Tablet/ phone im using to attempt to control the camera are a Motorola Xoom and a Galaxy S3
