I've been working towards my IFR rating and want to compare the approach my CFI has been taking to see how it compares because I'm having some doubts about his approach. Some background... I started IFR training towards the beginning of this year and have pretty much been doing weekly lessons (flying). My CFI is relatively green having just gotten his CFII this Summer and recently heard him mention that he's only taken 5 students through their PPL so very green in terms of working w/ students.

Now my point of concern is that we've been doing nothing but VOR, LOC, ILS, RNAV approaches for the last 2 months every lesson. So not covering anything new or reviewing old stuff (partial panel, timed turns, etc..) so nothing else other than shooting pretty much the same approaches every week. I looked back and have 42 flight hours into my IFR training.

Is this typical (doing nothing else but shooting approaches)?
