I'm getting close to getting a modern nav/com installed. This will still leave me with one radio, which is O.K. for my use. I was thinking of having them install a plugin so I could use a portable comm plugged into an aircraft antenna when/if the need arose. Right now I do not have an audio panel & get by with the one comm & a portable intercom. The idea being that this plugin port would give me easy use of a 2nd radio. I could also use the radio away from the plane, like an airshow or whatever.

I have heard portable radios work much better hooked into a plane antenna(with headset connection). Does anyone use this method? Does it sound like a workable & useful idea? Though 2 installed radios would be handy I don't feel a high need. I also have to keep the $$ spent somewhat reasonable, a few $1000 here & there starts to add up. Thanks.
