I zipped through Osh today, visited some folks I wanted to chit chat with.

Some notes that might be of general interest ...

Sandia will be updating their Quattro firmware shortly, will be adding instantaneous VSI (IVSI). No cost, but it needs shipping to the factory.

Garmin has entered the AI replacement market with their G5, with a unit that has fewer certified elements than the Sandia or L3, but at a better price point.

Electroair is selling certified electronic ignitions in quantity for four cylinders. It may have a solution for the single drive mags (D3000) shortly. It will comprise their fully electronic mag plus a separate semi electronic mag working off the accessory case, and having a built-in mini-alternator power supply. (a la EMag)

EMag has finished the module that clamps onto the accessory case for certified 6 cylinder aircraft, to replace a mag. They are working on a replacement on a dual mag that is much tidier. Would have a single drive (no mag spring of course, the weak link), and dual mini-alternators and dual electronics. They hope to get Lycoming interested to speed the STC process, as the D3000 is a Lycoming "issue".

PS Engineering has updated their PMA450. If you have one, you likely notice that the display is not wonderfully readable, unless viewing straight on. Their new one is very high contrast and looks to be OLED. Unfortunately no upgrade process, other than trading in your old unit and buying new. If looking for a 450 WAIT, and ensure you get the new design.

Icy Breeze's ice container, heat exchanger unit, has their unit on for for $199 (reg $299), show special. This was a Shark Tank project. Seems to be the best deal in these, by far.

Avidyne's 10.2 firmware is not released yet, described as imminent, it will extend communication with portables to two way. At last count some twenty different app developers are working on integration with the free and open wifi interface, everything from classic EFBs (Foreflight, Fltplan etc.) to utility apps monitoring a variety of parameters. Most of the big developers are ready to build on their present integration, as soon as 10.2 is released. Avidyne's unique IFD100 software will run on any iOS device (android expected in future), and give you a huge display, independently running IFD FMS/GPS, for just the cost of the tablet.

Fltplan in particular is doing really cool things with Avidyne integration. Their 10.2 ready version is expected to be uploaded next week.

I ducked out on the baggy eyelid treatments, but did say hello to the Angels from Heaven's Gate.

Done for another year. Tomorrow off to Winnipeg, on the next leg of our journey.
