Ok …I think I understand what needs to be done for the new Lycoming AD?

It is a strange AD IMO. So when an oil change is due, the filter needs to be cut open and inspected for metal particles from the connecting rod bushings. Those are the ones at the small end of the rod. Also, the oil screen needs to be pulled and inspected for these same metal particles.

Service letter from 2020

The bushings are pressed in and should not move or extend out where they can make connect and be damaged?

Okay ……A private pilot or better is allowed to do this. Change the oil and filter, cut the filter look for the particles and pull the screen and do the same.

(BTW if you find these particles, to properly identify them, they need to be soaked in nitric acid and if they turn green there is a problem..)

The pilot can then make a log book entry that they did this and sign it off in the engine log book at every oil change.

This must be done until for some reason all the bushing get changed?

Bty this also means if you want to, pull all the cylinders and change all the bushings with new parts and the AD procedure is no longer required.

The AD is effective December 2024. The oil change must be done within 4 months after this date?

That is it…..

This is a strange AD. If the parts maybe defective and come apart and destroy the engine……Just maybe I would want to pull the cylinders and replace the bushings.

WOW!!
