Hello,
I've been lurking here for a week or so since I was bitten by the bug to buy an airplane (again). A C-120 showed up on eBay and I was the high bidder for 3 days at $10,000(!) and the guy took it off the market. Said he wanted to keep it after all. Well, I was hooked AND determined to buy something around 10K. The Colt is one of the few (if any) planes that fit the bill. I owned a C-120 in the Virgin Islands for a few years and it turned out OK. I broke even when I sold it. I'd like to be able to do the same thing with a Colt. 2 0r 3 years of ownership, flying around Florida (I live in Ft. Lauderdale), maybe a 100 hours of flight time or so and sell it. The AD's are few but important (obviously). Wing strut corrosion, fuel valve and fuel lines, exhaust, etc. and of course corrosion in general are my main worries. The 0-235 seems like a good engine but parts and of course a good A&P can add up quickly. I don't have a big budget but I am working and getting ahead slowly. I figure if not now then when? I'm almost 60. So I'm looking for a Colt, with a good mid time engine, a good muffler, recent fabric, sealed struts and what else? What should I really be looking at closely that could be a real bank breaker? Thanks in advance for any advice. Cheers, Dan
